Get the Look: Taylor Momsen

I know what you're thinking. "Hey Tara, you haven't blogged in, um, six months! You better have a good explanation for this!" The truth is, I never had a lot of followers to begin with. But that's not the reason I stopped blogging. Would you believe me if I told you I forgot my password and couldn't restore my Google account for six months? I didn't think so. But that's what happened. I'm such an airhead but I promise to make it up to you cuties. Since I'm back at school, I have a lot of homework to do but there will always be the occasional Get the Look or Beauty Buzz post. Speaking of which, today's Get the Look star is...

...Taylor Momsen! Taylor's style is widely recognized as grunge-rock. In actual fact, her look is very simple and affordable.

#1: Find the outfit. Taylor Momsen's rebel-chic style can be copied by just about anyone. All you need in a dark top, a black leather jacket, ripped jeans (or a brightly colored skirt to pop against the darker tones) and boots. Below are some ideas I've put together for a Taylor-inspired outfit.

#2: Style your hair. If you're thinking of getting your hair done professionally like Taylor's, ask for a mid-length razor-cut style with lots of choppy layers. Texturizing is also a good idea. For sleek strands, apply a smoothing cream (such as Victoria's Secret So Sexy Supersmooth Smoothing Balm) to dry hair and use a flat-iron on small sections of hair from root to tips. Slowly run the flat iron down the hair shaft and hold through to the ends without rotating it. Finish with a texturizing hairspray (such as Pantene Pro-V Texture Hairspray) for glossy definition.

#3: Apply the makeup. Taylor is infamous for her 'panda eyes' yet not everyone can pull of the smudged eyelids look. Experiment with navy blue or plum mascara to make the whites of your eyes appear brighter and to break away from mainstream noir. Key to Taylor Momsen’s rock and roll appeal is smudged eyeliner with a slept-in effect. Do your smoky eye as usual and smudge it out with your finger. Create a hooded bedroom eye with copious amounts of liquid liner and full strips of false lashes, which will weigh down the lids slightly. Get even all over with a little help from a pressed powder foundation, the perfect antidote for an oily complexion. Skip the blush. Bubblegum brights and brick reds make a statement for both lips and eyes. (Makeup info from Taaz.com).

There you have it! Gosh, I've missed blogging. I'm afraid I don't know when I'll have time to post next but I really hope there are still people out there who read Couture Cuties! Stay fabulous...

Get the Look: Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift is a 21-year-old country pop princess. Her style is the perfect blend of casual and chic. In today's Get the Look, I'll be focusing on achieving a lazy yet stylish weekend look that pretty much anyone with the right shape can pull off.

This outfit is very simple and won't cost much at all so don't worry about money!

Halat flat boots and Urban Outfitters
canvas satchel
#1: Find the outfit: Do you want Taylor's exact outfit? No problem! Below are the links to where you can buy her fabulous ensemble. However, if you want to add your own twist, I would recommend choosing an off-the-shoulder sweater with a different picture.

#2. Style your hair. Taylor is famous for her natural gold ringlets. Curls suit almost every face shape and work best with high volume hair. Depending on how much hair you have, it shouldn't take more than an hour. ROUTINE: Simply wash and comb your hair before curling with hot sticks or a curling tong. Apply Tigi Curlesque defining shampoo beforehand if it's necessary. TARA'S TIP: Remember to wash and rinse your hair throughly before curling as oily or dry hair can be damaged easily!
#3. Apply the makeup. Taylor's makeup is usually subtle so try not to go over the top. First, apply a "V" of light shadow in the inner corner of your eyes (try the Barry M Dazzle Dust in Pale Blue) before adding black eyeliner. When applying mascara, use thicker strokes for the top lashes than with your lower ones. For a fair complexion, use Bourjois Little Round Pot Blush in Lune D'or. Finish with a coat of MAC Dazzleglass in Baby Sparks for sheer, shimmery pink lips.
There you have it! Taylor's comfy-chic look, perfect for any season or event. I hope you've found this useful. Keep the requests coming and, as always, stay fabulous...

Get the Look: Rihanna

Rihanna has been in the spotlight a lot recently. And it's no surprise girls have been trying to achieve her rockstar-glam style. But you don't need to spend your life savings just to look like a celebrity. Here are affordable alternatives to getting Rihanna's look.

For this party-chic look, you will need to determine your body shape. Are you curvy? Pear-shaped? Have an hourglass figure? Do you love to flaunt your legs or are you not so confident?

Rihanna wears a Zambesi bustier, Kos skirt, Christian
Louboutin heels and Kate Halfpenny necklaces

Whatever you feel about yourself, don't be afraid to substitute some of the items below for something less revealing. Hey, Rihanna is known for showing her skin!

#1: Find the outfit. For this look, you will need a grey bustier, red skirt, nude heels, gold necklace and polka-dot hair bow. These can be hard to find so here are some I discovered:

#2. Style your hair. In this picture, RiRi has gone for an elegant updo which is perfect for formal events. It may take up to 30 minutes to achieve this style. If you're in a hurry, take less time with the routine but don't be careless. This style works best for oval, square, oblong or diamond face shapes and you should have medium/thick hair density.

Routine:
Step 1) Hot roll your hair for as long as it takes until all of it is done.
Step 2) Tease your hair into an updo. You might want someone to help you with this step.
Step 3) Pin your bangs to the side of your head. You may also pin the hair on the back of your head.
Step 4) Spray everything in place with a strong-hold hairspray.
TARA'S TIP: Fluff your bangs gently with your fingers. This will create a soft, wavy impact.

#3. Apply the makeup. In this picture, Rihanna's eyes stand out. For this, I would recommend brushing on MAC Steamy eyeshadow before applying Maybelline Volume Express One by One mascara. This will give you beautiful, bold lashes without being too heavy. Add a nude lipstick like Rimmel Moisture Renew in Rose Sorbet (it's long-lasting and gives a subtle glossy finish) and finish with an even layer of Estee Lauder's Bronze Goddess soft matte bronzer for a shimmery shine.

There you have it! Rihanna's outfit, hair and makeup all in one blog post! I hope you've found it useful. If you have any Get the Look requests, leave a comment below. Stay fabulous...
